Back-to-School

"You only get the first day of school one time a year."

That's what the cashier at Target said to my kids as we checked out with our school supplies. I had to remind him that this is 2020 and we will actually get two first days. The one online and the one in-person.

This is a weird year. We all know it. We all feel it. My son is in sixth grade this year, (his first year of middle school) and it's kind of a mess. New school. New schedule. New everything.

Yesterday, my oneness kicked into overdrive and I decided the kids needed a proper space to learn besides the dining room table. The problem is that there are no desks....anywhere... so my ever-patient husband spent the better part of our Sunday figuring out how to get our hands on some small desks. We settled for making our own at 7pm the night before school starts.

I swear I'm lucky the man tolerates my over-stress the way he does.

This morning we got up and started Remote Learning 2.0. The kids have done really well, all things considered. Zoom wouldn't work, apparently for anyone. My son's Advise teacher had an incorrect schedule for him so he couldn't get into his classes. I didn't realize my daughter's headphones were broken and didn't have a microphone. Y'all, I wore this shirt that my husband gave me today that says, "If there was a problem, yo I'll solve it. - Mom"....My shirt is testing my ability.

Even with the hiccups, I'm happy to be back in a routine. I'm love that we have structure again. Summer has been great but I feel like we've been in summer mode since April and I'm a little over it. It's good for us to have order to our day and a reason to get out of bed at a decent hour. Even if we're doing it all from home, I'm still so thankful that there is something to do.
